Light It Up! Paper Circuit Creations, Presented by Skills Ontario
In this fun, hands-on workshop, students will get creative with an arts-and-crafts twist as they design their own paper circuit projects. Using conductive tape, LEDs, and simple materials, participants will make an easy light-up creation to take home. It’s a playful way to explore how art and science come together while learning the basics of electricity.
Beading is Coding presented by Science North *One workshop offering only
This hands-on workshop that weaves together Indigenous ways of knowing with fundamental coding concepts, demonstrating how beading and coding are interconnected, through variables, sequences, looping, and debugging. Students will create their own bracelets by writing a “code” then translating it into a physical design they can take home!
Microbit Mussel Mayhem presented by Science North *one workshop offering only*
Students will explore the ecological impact of invasive species like zebra mussels through hands-on coding with Microbits. By coding the devices to simulate mussel behavior in aquatic ecosystems, they will uncover how invasive species outcompete native organisms by gathering more resources. Through the interactive simulations, students will think about human impacts and explore strategies for reducing environmental harm.
Quantum Arcade, presented by ICTC **IMPORTANT: this workshop requires participants to bring their own device (i.e. laptop or Chromebook)
Quantum science is the study of how the tiniest things in the universe work — and it’s stranger than anything in our everyday world. Through fun activities, hands-on exploration with the Quantum Arcade, and real-world examples, students will discover how quantum physics explains the behavior of atoms and particles, how it’s used in technology today, and why scientists say it’s “weird.” We’ll spark curiosity, encourage big questions, and show that it’s okay not to have all the answers.
UA Workshop
Participants will engage in a hands-on project using a press-fit machine to create their own take-home item. The workshop will highlight the history of the U.A., the importance of the skilled trades, and the vital role women play in the industry today. Through interactive discussion and Q&A, attendees will connect with women in the trades and gain valuable insight into their experiences.
